I worked in the control tower at Mile Square in 1968 (it was a mobile temporary tower). The helicopters would come from
MCAS Santa Ana to practice auto rotations and other completely outrageous stuff that you would think helicopters would never be able to do! I had a lot of fun the short time I was there.Can't believe it was 44 years ago. It served it's purpose at the time.

MCAS Helicopter Outlying Field Mile Square
In 1942, the U. S. Depeartment of the Navy obtained by condemnation approximately 640 acres of land in what is now the city of Fountain Valley. The site was designated as Helicopter Outlying Field (HOLF) Mile Square and was in the custody of the Naval Air Station, Los Alamitos.
